What is a Computer?
Various Uses of Computer in contemporary society. History of
Computer Various types of computers available in the market.
Information Concepts & Processing System-
Evolution of Information Processing, Date, Information, Knowledge
& wisdom.
Elements of Computer Processing System-
Hardware, CPU, Storage devices and media, VDU, input output
devices, data communication equipments.
Data Representation:
How does a computer represents the Data? Bits & Bytes, Number
System, Binary, Octal, Hexadecimal, Conversions, arithmetic
operations in binary numbers, ASCII & EBCDIC character sets.
Software Concepts:
Types of software: System Software, Application Software,
Programming Languages, Machine Language, assembly language, High
Level Languages, fourth Generation Languages, Interpreter,
Assembler, Compiler.
Operating System:
Concepts as resource manager, Batch Processing, Multiprogramming,
Multiprocessing, Time Sharing , and real time system.
DOS-
Command interpreter, Booting internal & external commands, batch
files, EXE, COM, System files BIN, TXT,BMP files.
Computers & Communication :
the basic communication system, Data Transmission- Simplex, Half
duplex, full duplex. Computer Networks LAN, WAN,MAN, Network
topologies.

PROGRAMMING CONCEPTS USING ‘C’ (Course- 102)
Programming Fundamentals :
Defining and understanding a problem, Algorithm development, Flowchart. Basic
Structure of C Program: Constant, Variables and data types-int,char,flor, etc.
Declarations, Operations (Arithmetic, relational, logical). Increment &
decrement operators, Precedence of artithmatic operations, Operators precedence
and associativity. Expressions in C; Arithmetic Expressions evaluation of
expressions, type conversions in expressions. Cassignment statements : C input
and output using get char & put char, printf, Scanf functions.
C statements and blocks : Conditional statements in C; Simple if-else, if-else
ladder, switch,?: operator, Concept of Loop (While,for,do-chile, repeat wntil),
Break and continue goto and labels.
Arrays:
One dimensional arrays and example of iterative programs using arrays and 2D
arrays, Matrix Operation like Transpose, Multiplication, Addition etc.
Concepts of Sub-Programming :
Functions, Exampile of functions, External variables, scope rules, ?Header
files, Static Variables, Initialization, parameter passing (Call-by- Values,
Call –by- reference), recursion, C Preprocessor. Structures, enumerated date
types, union files, pointers, relationship between array and pointers, argument
passing using pointers,array of pointers, passing array as arguments.

DIGITAL ELECTRONICS-I (Course- 103)
Number System, Binary Codes, Reflected Codes, error detection doces, Logic
gates- OR, AND, NOT, EX-OR Logic, De-Morgan’s theorems, NOR and NAND gates,
Universal building blocks, theorems of Boolean Algebra, Simplifying logic
circuits- sum of products and products of sums ferom algebraic simplification,
Karnaugh Simplification, arithmetic cciorcuts, code conversions, multilevel;
NAND and NOR circuits, EX OR and equipvalenc functions, parity checker, parity
generators, Comparators, encoder, decoder, Multiplexer, Demultiplexer circuts,
ROM, PLA.

MATHEMATICS - I (Course – 104)
Operations on matrices, adjoint, inverse, rank, system, of linear equations.
Successive differentiation, Leibnitz theorem, Taylor’s Series and Maclaurin’s
Series, Rolles theorem, Mean Value theorem, Partial differentiation, definitions
and examples of curvature,astymptotes, Singular points, concavity & Point of
Inflexion. Tracing of Cartesian curves (Standard Curves only). Maxima & Minima
(Simple cases).
Definite integrals, multiple integral, rectification, quadrature, volumes and
surfaces of revolutions (Standard curves only )
Differential equations : Differential equations of first order and first degree,
linear differential equation with constant coefficients.

ORAL AND WRITTEN TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION (Course – 105)
Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and use and writing and composition.
Basic of official correspondence, preparation of Bio-data. Students should be
asked to prepare seminars during the Practice session.
